A story written about transgender issues. Amanda Jette Knox is a Canadian author and advocate for LGBTQ rights and this is her story within her own family. This book gave me a better understanding of why the LGBTQ are so visible in their fight for equality. Bullying , addiction, mental health, denial, unconditional love, marital relationships are all brought into this story. The discrimination against the LGBTQ has been and is a major problem for its members. Change is happening but slowly. All people deserve to feel safe in who they are no matter the gender. Acceptance and support is needed for them to feel equal and confident to lead the life they feel they were meant to at birth. Being LGBTQ is not the problem the lack of support is. If you have ever loved someone unconditionally you get this and can support that person to be the best person they can be.A story written about transgender issues. I enjoyed this book and read it just after returning to work from the 11 week layoff due to the covid -19 pandemic in 2020. Times have changed due to the virus and this book is all about empathy and compassion for other people. It explains how your childhood can teach you to be empathetic towards others or cold depending often on how you were brought up. Yet some people seem to be born kind and trusting. Dr. Brian Goldman a Toronto ER physician asks himself after working in the ER has he become less empathetic towards people and sets out on a journey to meet others around the world who are known to be the kindest people. I myself had tended to be judgemental about homeless people and never gave them money when they asked me for it but due to the pandemic I heard on a podcast that these people are in more trouble than the average person due to the lack of people they could beg for money on the streets and the lack of food they could find in the dumpsters to live off of. So I turned my judgement off and gave to them $5-7 so hopefully they would buy food but if they choose to buy alcohol, drugs or smokes with it that is their choice not mine. Most of the homeless didn't choose to be homeless. It was problems with mental health issues like depression , schizophrenia, and addiction to alcohol and drugs that led them to be homeless. During the covid situation they need our help more than before and I am choosing to help some of them as long as they are respectful when they ask. I still am not trusting enough of them to give if I think I could be in danger from them but so far so good. I liked the way Dr. Goldman writes and have put a couple more of his books on hold at the library.I enjoyed this book and read it just after returning to work from the 11 week layoff due to the covid -19 pandemic in 2020. I enjoyed reading this mystery and the murderer was a big surprise. A story about a televangelist preacher who gets murdered in his hotel suite and all the enemies who could have wanted him dead. A love story enfolds in the various characters who are all vastly different. An interesting look into how police solve crimes and how many various police it takes to work on one case digging into the secrets of people's lives. Cassidy the assistant district attorney , Clare the creator of French Silk and her model friend Yasmine, Clare's mom Mary Catherine, Andre Philippe the hotel manager, Congressman Alister P. and his wife Belle all main characters along with Ariel Wilde Jackson's young wife and Jackson's son Josh.
I would recommend this book.I enjoyed reading this mystery and the murderer was a big surprise. A story about a televangelist preacher who gets murdered in his hotel suite and all the enemies who could have wanted him dead. A love story enfolds in the various characters who…

Not one of her best books in my opinion. More of a teen read. Anti abortion groups taking women back 50 years to make choice for abortion illegal.

I didn't like this book at all. Too boring with past history from 50 to 90 years ago. Read the first few chapters then skimmed to the end.

I liked the concept of human machines and the issues and problems that were dealt with from the owners perspective and the robots but at the same time was bored by the rambling of the author's need to emphasize how intelligent the robot was. The depth of the intelligence of the robot took away from the story line.I liked the concept of human machines and the issues and problems that were dealt with from the owners perspective and the robots but at the same time was bored by the rambling of the author's need to emphasize how intelligent the robot was. I enjoyed this book and liked the way that Matt writes. Interesting, honest recap of the life of a first year medical intern with its ups and downs as he learned to deal with the medical crisis and with the patient. Not all can be taught from a text book. This book made you laugh and worry about Matt's journey at the same time. Interacting with the patient is a big part of becoming a good doctor and he let us know how difficult that can be. Because I like his style of writing I am going to read Odd Man Out that Matt also wrote.I enjoyed this book and liked the way that Matt writes. This was a story of life in India from 4 different families. I learned about the Hindu and Muslim faiths and customs. The concept of prearranged marriages and how they work out. There is a lot of information on the caste system in India. A lot of good, likeable characters in this book along with the nasty. Mrs. Rupa Mehr and her children Arun who is married to Meenaski and they have a daughter Aparna , Savita who is married to Pran and is pregnant for most of the book , Lata and Varun . Then there is the Kapoor Family and Mann is the main character in this family and he falls in love with a prostitute Saeeda Bin.
I found there was too much depth in the politics of India that I was not interested in. The book was 1500 pages long. I would recommend this book but not for a book club choice.

This was an excellent book explaining the journey of water from source to your tap. It does a great job of explaining how we take water for granted but at the same time warning of what can happen and has happened in other parts of the world where they have been met with crisis of water shortage due to mishandling of the water. Las Vegas, Australia and Dubai are great examples of how the climate change has put pressure on the water crisis and how they are handling it. This book shows how water infrastructure has to be maintained and upgraded to accommodate the increasing population of the world. It explains how much water is used for farming, industry and daily use. It explains how to recycle water and how to allocate it for different uses according to how clean the water has to be to drink vs washing your car. I learned a lot in this book. I am guilty of not being aware of where my water was coming from and how important water is to us to live. The cost of water is free but the cost of getting it to you is expensive. We all need to be more aware of how we use water and stop taking it for granted.
Charles Fishman also wrote the book The WalMart Effect and I would like to read that too. This was an excellent book explaining the journey of water from source to your tap.
