The first boyfriend is so vile and so obviously a jerk (nicest term I could think of and much too nice a word for him) that the first two chapters are a tough sell. After the inevitable break up, this is a truly enjoyable book. A little history, a little how-to home improvement, a little Maine travel propaganda, not enough on fabric design, but lots and lots of flirting. (Thankfully, we are spared graphic sex scenes.) It is hard to put down (once she dumps the cad). A darm good cozy mystery!

After pushing myself to get past the first chapter or two, I found I really liked this book. Fatal fixer-upper was a quick, cozy mystery that had everything I needed -- a little mystery, great characters and a little hint of a romance soon to blossom. Will definitely be reading more in this series.

I really enjoyed this book, there was a fun style to it, nothing felt forced in the storyline, it had a good reading pace. I was able to figure out the "big secret" before it was even truly suggested but did not deter me from completing the book. Recommend!

Avery is a New York textile designer who inherits her great aunt's run down house in Maine. She decides to fix it up with the help of cute handyman Derek before selling it. Questions arise about a missing person and Avery begins to suspect that her aunt's death may not have been an accident. This was a fun read and I'm looking forward to more in the series. The only thing I didn't like was the relationship between Avery and her ex-boyfriend. Her self-esteem seemed lacking when it came to him.
