When a middle aged man is found dead in a hotel room, it seems like a routine matter until it becomes clear to DI Wesley Peterson that it is a case of cold blooded murder and that the identity the victim has been using isn't his own. Then DCI Gerry Heffernan, frustrated at being given only cold cases during his recovery from being shot in the line of duty, discovers from a DNA review that Wesley's mystery man was responsible for the murder of a child back in 1979. But soon, as Wesley delves into the events of the past, more people die. Meanwhile archaeologist Neil Watson is investigating a ruined village that tumbled into the sea during a storm at the time of the First World War. Events take a cryptic turn when he encounters a hundred year old mystery with echoes in the present. As a terrifying truth is revealed, Wesley has to face a great danger. Especially if he is to save someone very precious to him.

This was an interesting mystery. However, there were a number of different story lines which made it a little challenging to keep track of the various characters moving from the past to the present. Everything was tied together at the end. I will read another book by this author.

The past catches up to the future in a way that compels you to finish the book. I found the story very good but a bit too much jumping form the past to the present to give it a complete 4 stars. I will read another of her books soon.

If you enjoy murder mysteries with engaging characters, complex plots and a dash of history thrown in that mirrors the crime at hand these series is for you. This is the 19th in
series and the best one yet.
Two murders occurred but how do they relate to a murder of a child in 1979 and a murder of a child in 1918. Evil has a long memory and its tentacles can reach not only from the past but from the grave. Highly recommended. (No graphic violence, sex or bad language)
