"In two western stories, two town marshals are called upon to solve puzzling crimes--the theft of four thousand dollars from a disabled stage and the murder of a stranger whose body disappears before the marshal can have it buried"-- “Marshal Redleaf” is Chet Redleaf, one-third Indian, and he must find out who stole a shipment of $4,000 from the local stage while the driver and guard were busy working on a wheel. The robbers left not boot tracks, but moccasin tracks. The problem is the Indians have been moved to the reservation, except for a few hold-outs who try to keep their presence hidden and have no particular use for money. Redleaf comes to think that it might have been an inside job.
