I really enjoyed this book. The main character was really likeable, and her dog, Stitch, was of course very lovable. The supporting characters were great, too, although there were maybe two or three minor arcs that I wish had been completed more fully. The story flowed really smoothly, and even though the chase scene at the end was a bit silly, I loved everything else. I would happily read another book following Amelia and Stitch. Completed 2/17/18.

Amelia Winn is profoundly deaf after a hit and run accident. Now, the former nurse, still recovering and adapting to her new life, is ready to move on, leaving her alcoholism and former marriage behind. She's hoping to nurse again someday but for now she's happy to get a job digitizing medical records for a cancer clinic. After finding the dead body of a former co-worker she can't help investigating a bit--especially when she sees people acting suspiciously. The main character's deafness adds an interesting dimension to the story. At one point she misreads someone's lips and goes off in the wrong direction. Together with her service dog, Stitch, she helps bring the perpetrator to justice. Like other commenters, I wouldn't mind a return of this character.

What a perfect book to read when looking for a new interesting mystery. Although at times, I thought Amelia was quite adept at handling her deafness for not having been deaf for very long, loved the story. I felt the ending was a little rushed, but am hoping that there will be more novels involving Amelia and Jake the police detective.

The fact that the main character is deaf amplified the suspense in a lot of the scenes. I would enjoy reading more books featuring the main character, Amelia.

Predictable but still enjoyed the fast-paced action.

Great thriller! Fast paced, well-written, highly developed characters, atmospheric, and an interesting plot. A unique story in that the main character, Amelia, is deaf - having lost her hearing in a hit-and-run accident.

I thought the author did a great job in effectively portraying what it'd be like to be deaf in different stressful situations. I learnt something new about deafness. At first I thought the author had made a big mistake in that Amelia drove a Jeep. I had always assumed (incorrectly) that deaf people are not allowed to drive. However, it appears that being deaf has no negative impacts on a person's ability to operate a vehicle. In fact, they can drive quite safely through using special devices that notify them of car horns, emergency vehicles, etc.

Lots of possible suspects also made for an interesting read. Great ending and highly recommended!
