Four years after the end of Prohibition, the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) reaffirmed its anti-alcohol stance at its national convention in Washington, D.C. The temperance movement, which began in the 1820s, gathered strength during the late 19th century, and virtually disappeared after the repeal of Prohibition in 1933.
