Parisians Live in Shantytowns Ca. 1933Unknown - 1933
As a result of World War I, the French economy took a serious downturn, which was worsened by the stock market crash of 1929. In Paris, the homeless set up shantytowns, building shacks out of whatever material they could salvage. Residents disparagingly referred to the shantytowns as "Morocco". Eventually, though, they were required to leave, in order to make room for a university expansion project.
