As a result of the Nazi Party coming to power in 1933, many prominent intellectuals and scientists fled Germany for Great Britain and the United States. Included in that number was Albert Einstein, who renounced his German citizenship and accepted a job at Princeton University's Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He also reversed his pacifist views and advocated that other European countries arm themselves to defend freedom from the threat of fascism.
