While visiting the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo on September 6, 1901, President William McKinley was shot by anarchist Leon Czolgosz. McKinley died eight days later. On September 15 his casket was driven through the streets of Buffalo, and then on through Washington, D.C. Finally, McKinley was buried in his hometown of Canton, Ohio.
