One year after he seized power in 1971, Ugandan dictator Idi Amin ordered over 50,000 Asians who were not Ugandan citizens to leave the country. The government then confiscated their businesses and posessions. While this move proved popular among many Ugandans, it brought international condemnation and caused deep harm to the country's economy.
