The Paris peace conferences took place from 1968 to 1973 between the government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV), the Republic of Vietnam, the United States, and the Provisional Revolutionary Government (PRG), which represented the South Vietnamese revolutionaries. The aim of the talks was to end to the conflict between North (the DRV) and South Vietnam (the Republic of Vietnam). In 1973 the Paris accords were formally signed, designating the release of U.S. prisoners of war, the withdrawal of U.S. troops, and a truce between North and South Vietnam. Despite this, the DRV violated the accords and by 1975 North and South were united under a communist government.
