In the wake of the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, President John F. Kennedy announced that there would be little change in the nation's foreign policy in relation to Cuba to an audience of American newspaper editors. He declared that the nation would not tolerate Soviet military forces in Cuba and that it would continue to support anti-Castro guerilla fighters. This policy was later invoked in response to Soviet plans to station missiles in Cuba, which led to the Cuban Missile Crisis.
