Rate this:
In 1924 English mountain climber George Herbert Leigh Mallory and his assistant Andrew "Sandy" Irvine attempted to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The expedition hired Nepalese guides to find a suitable location for the base camp. At the base camp, with the help of the Nepalese, the expedition prepared for the arduous climb up the mountain's north side. While they initially made progress, Mallory and Irvine's journey suffered complications and both explorers died before reaching the summit.
