Many of the recipes in this volume were taken from the test kitchens of the Battle Creek Sanitarium in Battle Creek, Michigan, one of the most famous "health spas" in America during the latter part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The author is the wife of John Harvey Kellogg, the sanitarium's superintendent and, along with his brother Will, the inventor of the corn flake.
