Book News
In this profusely illustrated book, a reprint of the 2005 edition, three Cubans of Chinese descent--Armando Choy, Moises Sio Wong, and Gustavo Chui--describe their roles in the Cuban Revolution and in the ensuing years. Each became a general in the Cuban armed forces, all three led Cuban armed forces fighting South Africa in Angola (including the historic battle at Cuito Cuanvale in 1987 that defeated the apartheid army) and each has helped implement Cuba's domestic and foreign policies in the decades since the revolution. Valuable as a first-hand account of events that are little known outside Cuban circles, including the impact of Chinese immigration on Cuban history, they explain how their experiences over five decades shaped their socialist political views. Appendices include speeches by Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela. Available in Spanish as Nuestra historia aún se está escribiendo. Annotation ©2010 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
