The streets of Stoneham, New Hampsire are lined with bookstores...and paved with murder.

When she moved to Stoneham, city slicker Tricia Miles met nothing but friendly faces. And when she opened her mystery bookstore, she met friendly competition. But when she finds Doris Gleason dead in her own cookbook store, killed by a carving knife, the atmosphere seems more cutthroat than cordial. Someone wanted to get their hands on the rare cookbook that Doris had recently purchased-and the locals think that someone is Tricia. To clear her name, Tricia will have to take a page out of one of her own mysteries-and hunt down someone who isn't killing by the book.

I never got into this book, so a review of only 20 or so pages is probably not a fair one. But I sort of saw the danger on page one when the author spends 3 lines describing the pink polyester outfit one of the characters was wearing.

Enjoyed the first book in the Booktown Mystery Series. The cast of characters were interesting, although not all were well-liked; but isn't real life just like that?

I could relate to the sibling conflict Tricia had with her sister. One looking for approval, the other often clueless to the tension; but in the end, family sticks together.

The true to life small town atmosphere was believable, where store owners know their neighbors, gossip abounds, and outsiders only become natives with the passing of time.

I often wished I was sitting in the bookstore sipping coffee, chatting with the diverse group of employees.

I hope that Tricia finds a little more romance in future editions (perhaps Russ?) and look forward to reading another by this author.

City clicker Tricia, owner of a mystery bookstore, finds that there is discord between the locals and new folk...Tricia finds "friendly competition" turning to "suspician" that she is a murderess, and works hard to solve the mystery.
