ABC-CLIO
Great new reading lists for handouts, your website, or simply to browse for you next great mystery read.
Mystery and crime readers looking for great new reads, and librarians looking for fresh reading lists for patrons will love this new resource. It categorizes hundreds of popular crime fiction titles according to five broad features: character, setting, story, language and mood-and then into thematic lists as "Reading the Bones," "Dynamic Duos," "Love you to Death," and "Bright Lights, Dead Bodies." For each title, you'll find bibliographic information and a brief, punchy description, designed to spark reader interest. Use these lists to advise readers; create thematic reading lists for library Web sites, flyers, and newsletters; and as checklists or reading plans for those who enjoy mystery fiction. Buy two copies--one for the reference or readers' advisory resource shelf and another to circulate!

Book News
Trott, a librarian, shares his favorite mysteries in this addition to the "Read On" series, intended to help librarians and booksellers suggest new authors to patrons. This volume is arranged in sections based on appeal characteristic such as, mood, character, setting, story and language. Then each of these is subdivided by theme. Within these themes the author lists eight to ten mysteries he thinks fall into that category. For each book, he gives a short synopsis. The list is highly idiosyncratic on all counts. As he admits in the preface, the field is so large that this is no more than a sampling. The main benefit of this reference book is that, while he lists some well known authors, there are also many who may be unknown to librarians who are not specialists in the genre. This book will introduce them to new readers. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
