Then, it was crackling fast paced book.
Today? "USA, ra, ra, ra" Pollyanna book so dated with implied feeble China cybersecurity or reform minded Russia. Siberia still woefully underdeveloped.
Current hidden cyber arms race with China groping with indigenous chip designs. China now sponsored state run industrial espionage that steal United States civilian & military technological secrets to be reverse engineered.
Sure China have most powerful supercomputer. However, their computer scientists used it 24/7 for whatever projects?

I totally disagree with two of the negative comments below. While the book was +1400 pages, it was a wonderful read. I am reading the 'Jack Ryan' novels in order. Lots of good surprises. China invades Russia to capture newly discovered oil and gold reserves. The USA teams up with Russia to defeat China in the War.

Terrible book. Stopped reading it after about 200 pages. It seems all commies [ both Russian and Chinese] are greedy perverts but the Americans are hard working nice guys just trying to make the world a better place. Talk about Western propaganda.

One of Clancy's last great books. Focuses on espionage and a terrifying global conflict, with Jack Ryan in a very important role.

Clancy's descriptions of military machinery and history is impressive and well researched as always.

Overlong, as Clancy books tend to be. He'd do better if he wasn't so enthusiastic about explaining jargon and how things work; that's a really annoying habit of his. Still, it's a sprawling, epic book, and the last good Clancy novel. His more recent work, sparse as it is, is much more inferior.
