Although the book goes more into detail, the movie is a great adaptation. The leading roles are fantastic!

Fried Green Tomatoes is one of the better book-to-film adaptations I've seen. The cast is great. I think the movie and the adult fiction book of the same title are about equally very good. The film is rated PG-13.

A excellent film. It might be a 'chick' flick but I don't care, it holds its own very well. Mary Stuart Masterson nails her character! Very enjoyable movie!

This film is a mixed bag. The flashback sequences between the two storylines are a bit cumbersome. In some respects I would have preferred simply having the film provide a single story of Ruth and Idgie. Overall, however, the film came across as effective and picturesque storytelling, though a bit heavy handed at times, especially in connection with the secondary story of Evelyn Couch’s liberation. I thought the locations and photography were excellent and greatly enhanced the presentation of the story, especially the rather iconic dredging of Frank Bennett’s truck out of the lake. On the other hand, I found myself confused at the end of the film as to exactly who Ninny Threadgoode was. In reading a plot summary of the book, she was supposed to have been some sort of orphan who was taken in by the Threadgoode household and then married one of Idgie’s brothers. However, this relationship was never clarified in the film and the ending seemed to suggest that for the film’s purposes, Ninny might actually be Idgie herself as an old woman, a suggestion reinforced by the note and jar of honey freshly left at Ruth’s grave when she and Evelyn pass by.

Sometimes you want to watch a movie more than once. This is one of them. It pulls at your heartstrings. Good story with strong female characters. Loved it!

Very touching film, great love story on one level and confidence building on the other. They balance out humour and seriousness in one story. Brought tears to my eyes and I am not a "chick".

One of my favorite movies of all times. I remember watching this often with my mum on our girl nights crying together because of the message of friendship and love that there is within this movie. A great girl-power movie. One to share with girlfriends and female relatives.

it's really rare to find a movie solely about women's friendships!! SUCH a great, heart-warming movie. definately cried in some parts, and also laughed in some parts also! :) AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME chick flick.

Good old-fashioned storytelling, great acting and strong directing translate into a great film. And, unlike many new movies, Fried Green Tomatoes contains something they don't. This movie's got heart.

There's one drawback. The serious love story between the female heroines that appears in novel is greatly subdued in the film version.
