This novel has everything I love in a fiction/suspense/thriller novel. The fast pace hooks the reader early on in the story. It has the authenticity of a true crime docudrama. As the story unfolds, twists ramp up the suspense...chapters alternate between the circumstances leading up to a missing person, the "accidental drowning" and the claim that she is dead however her body is never found. The insurance investigation is required to determine if the claim is legitimate. The payout on the claim is very substantial, atypical of the average person’s coverage. It is the sequence of events, their placement in the story, alternating from past to present, which includes the wife’s perspective (victim) as well as the chronology established through the insurance investigation that keep the reader interested and motivated to continue reading. The story involves issues such as sexual harassment in the corporate workplace, the plight of illegal immigrants and their exploitation by the extremely wealthy who live a decadent, privileged lifestyle, domestic violence, smuggling of drugs and illegals, greed, betrayal, insurance fraud and murder. The author’s thorough research on psychopathology and the psychopathic personality, borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder were not only accurate and informative; they were nicely woven into the story. An excellent read for readers with a passion for authentic, well-written, fast paced, suspenseful crime novels.
