This title was much improved over its predecessor, thank goodness. The pacing was excellent, and the suspense very well done; the climax of the story had me convinced that the protagonist had made a choice that would be her undoing, but the resolution was satisfying without being trite or too easy. Moning does a better job giving more layers to her main characters, making them more complex and believable as human beings, and also introduces hints of deeper intrigues with her non-mortal characters. Even though I was vastly disappointed with her first title in the series (Darkfever), I'm glad I decided to continue the series and give this second title a shot.
